recommend.
A criminal with several serious convictions becomes involved with the muscular dystrophy-diseased daughter of one of his victims. If you like the genre of Rain Man, that Sean Penn movie called something or other "Sam," Slingblade... well, you'll love this one because the young actress does a fine job.
To those less enthusiastic about these roles that call for what otherwise would be bombast and scenery chewing on a gargantuan scale I'd counsel to give this one a pass.
It does have some very moving scenes but, all in all, it feels very "moralistic."

is in-cre-dible, and one can really only appreciate what a job she does after seeing her in her "normal" state, which I saw in various interviews, etc. It's mind-boggling, and I would recommend this movie if just for this feat. Oh, I far prefer "Oasis" to the other movies you mentioned..
other films I mentioned.
The lead male is terrific and does just as excellent a job in a more nuanced performance.
S P O I L E R:
Don't you recall that several scenes in the movie, the actress comes out of character? THAT was disturbing and very, very weird a directorial decision.
