It's one of those: nothing-is-as-it-appears pieces. In a good way, though. Josh Hartnett is a young smartass who unbeknowingly gets into the middle of a competing mobsters predicament represented by Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman. Bruce Willis plays the background as the assassin for hire while Harnett bounces back and forth helplessly caught in the middle. To say anymore about the plot would risk serious spoilage. This film bounces from deadly serious to light comedy (with Lucy Liu being the fluff element) and back again several times. The ending is somewhat shocking and disturbing as nothing-was-as-it-appeared. Definitely worth a view.
Follow Ups:
though I thought the Hartnett role - especially the carefree clown in over his head part - would've been perfect for Brad Pitt.I did figure out the twist fairly early but it didn't stop me from enjoying the film. I was a little surprised at how brutal it was.

Thanks for the review, I'll check it out even though Josh is the worst "actor" relentlessly to be pushed in recent memory.
I couldn't agree more. He can single handedly bring a movie down. I have no idea why this guy gets work.
You must be in a good mood to refer to that kid as an actor. Josh acts like a 2nd generation Keanu.
Even Keanu Reeves was good twice in his career. Hartnet? Was he ever better than terible?
I thought he was pretty decent in it actually.

Given the nature of that movie though one would have to suck very badly to fail.
