  Korean movies can have an immediacy and intensity as well as a unique perspective that I find quite refreshing. Its well known that they do action/trillers and horror/thrillers, but they also do love stories extremely well too.
  In no particular order:

  A Tale of Two Sisters
  Welcome to Dongmakgol
  April Snow
  Phone
  You're My Sunshine
  A Bittersweet Life
  Princess Aurora
  JSA
  Park's vengeance triology:
  Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
  Into the Mirror
  Spider Forest

  Several notes: Not all are R1 discs, and some of the better ones may never be. Also don't judge by the titles, for they can be misleading.

      Horror/thriller/psychodrama. Very well done. Most people really like it.

  discuss them and link a fantastic article of three pages which gives a great overview.
  I second Joint Security Area and also Oldboy. Memories of Murder is a spectacular thriller, as well. Go into this adventure with an open mind and be prepared to have your film world shaken.
