On consceutive nights I watched Mamet's "House of Games" and "The Spanish Prisoner". Some of the cast are in both. Both are well crafted elaborate con games with many plot twists and surprises. Both are worth a look more than once. "The Spamish Pridonoer is the more complicated of the two and is similar to Mamet;s play, "The Water Engine". Lindsay Crouse, mamet's wife at the time is in the first film and Rebecca Pigeon, Maet's wife att that time, is in the second, albeit with a smaller role than Crouse.
Follow Ups:
I like Mamet's use of Ricky Jay in House of Games and The Spanish Prisoner. Steve Martin was also well-cast in the latter. My favorite, too, is Homicide. Have you seen Mantegna and Sam Rockwell in Jerry and Tom? The screenplay was by Rick Cleveland, also a playwright.
No, I haven't seen "Jerry and Tom".
Tour de force performance's by Crouse and Mantenga put it over the top, IMO. Both of them delivered Mamet's "declaritive dialogue" style perfectly. Always an intersting touch that sets his works apart.
I do feel that Mamet's all time best film is "Homicide".
To me, Mantenga and Mamet were made for each other. But, people start getting old and . . . *
Ex nihilo, nihil fit . . .
