Saw it many years ago, and though it was wonderful movie. Like something out of Russian literature. Lav Oblomov, man that was couch confined for ten years.
Follow Ups:
That was quite some time ago, so can't comment intelligently, except that Tabakov seemed to fit the role.
Oleg Tabakov, Yuri Bogatyryov, Andrei Popov, Yelena Solovey, Avangard Leontyev directed by Nikita Mikhalkov.
He wasn't confined, he was lazy, spoiled, arrogant, and fearful of anything outside his domain. He wouldn't get out of bed or off the couch and was quite content to sleep rather than relate to the world. He was a very annoying character to say the least.
The actor and the filmaker must have done something right?! I wan't to see that movie again.
.
Ex nihilo, nihil fit . . .
I have not seen that one, only heard friends tear it to shreds, but perhaps should take a look. Onegin, though, is such an important literature work that I think the warrants a view - after all it was filmes on location, and WHAT location! Of course putting the whole work into 106 minutes sounds like a murder...Anyway, thanks for reminding me... I put it in the queue, and even moved it to the top - I can imagine my wife's surprise when it shows up! But hey, man has to take a stand once in his lifetime!
