The images and invocation of Hardy's Dorset, the accents, the pacing, the music, were just perfect.

I like the way the sun gradulally sets at the beginning, darkening the mood.A splendid evication of Hardy's world is "Far From the Madding Crowd", unfortunately not yet out on DVD but available on laserdisc.
Oh, well that's interesting, I hadn't noticed, because at the very end, in between the monoliths of Stonehenge, the sun is rising, announcing Tess' death!
