Second fil of the day, and luckily at the same cinema was the Oscar winning Tsotsi.
This is broadly about the "little gangsters" ("tsotsi") and particularily about one youth who goes by that name.
Living in a shanty town these thugs are far more Jim Thompson than Steinbeck and the noire themes resound throughout the film.
Right to the end and his attempt at redemption.
The film is shocking and shockingly good, at times reaching into a similar place as Crash (in my opinion).
This story of how decay and poverty erode societies could be set in the Jewish Ghettoes of Nazi Germany or the refugee camps of almost anywhere. These kids could be American or Palestinian or Rwandan.
Its a universal theme here and the film is quite magnificent.
I think we should all see this one... twice.

I know your constant burning desire to throw mud at Israel and Jews, and there is nothing I can do about it, but for the sake of readers, any comparisson between things like the Warsaw Ghetto and a Palestinian refugee camp is a completely self-serving one. There was no "decay" and "poverty erroding society" in the Jewish Ghetto, and of course the whole situation was completely different - no one is physically forcing people to live in those other ghettos you mentioned, and there is no mass extermination coming to their dvellers. This forum would be a better place if you checked your anti-Semitism at the door.
... blurring of truths for whatever grindingly boring purpose will be left as a stinking corpse.
