I don't think the sense of cutesiness and manipulation ever left me, but I just accepted it as a part of the whole dish... while somewhat in your face, I understand its role there, and tried to overlook it, even if it was hard at times.

Taken for what it is the film is indeed enjoyable, but that baggage is a serious one, and keeps it from raising to truly high status.
