In this docunoir, Chicago newspaper editor Lee J. Cobb orders investicative reporter Jimmy Stewart to answer an ad offering $5000 to anyone who can prove a convicted murderer innocent. Stewart reluctantly gets involved but as he investigates he becomes more and more convinced that the 11 year old conviction of Richard Conte was a frame up. Stewart eventually discovers key evidence and presents it to the Illinois Pardon Board. This is a very well made film and is along the lines of a police procedural.
Follow Ups:
love the movie. Wasn't Jimmy Stewart just a great actor though? They broke the mold after they made him. Why aren't there any truely great actors today like him or Alec Guiness,Greg Peck,William Holden, Jospeh Cotten,George C scott,Orson Wells? Why does Hollywood think Nick Cage, Tom Hanks, Christain Bale are anywhere approaching the level of those old greats? Its weird....am i wrong ? Is it just perspctive? That i see those older actors the way i saw my parents, as older and therefore automatically greater? Is it just impossible for me to see someone near my own age as truely great?
