I saw this about the time of Broken Flowers, and, as both are about men having "middle" age crises I thought they were quite comparable but this one came out as much better.I really love that scene where Daines and Martin go to bed for the first time and you see the wrinkliness of his hand against the smoothness of her back.
Steve MArtin may never reach the heights (at least of popularity) that he once did, ut this film is a small gem.
What's your favourite MArtin film?
Perhaps alone I love LA Story which I kind of think of as a fairy tale love affair he has with the city, and possibly the movie business.

Fresh wine anybody?Oh yeah and that often forgotten jem, All of me. Some of the best physicial comedy I've ever seen and yes I have seen Buster Keaton.
I think that Martin has that ability to connect comedy and tragedy, to not always be funny, and that he has made career choices along that line which may have cost him in some ways.
But, like the best sit-coms, by not just being a series of set-ups, they remain watchable. I am thinking Frasier, MASH, Only Fools And Horses, and a long line of others.
SOme comedy films, to me, are a random collection of "jokes", and that makes them the equivalent of shoot em ups, gore fests, and FX based movies in that mmmm I can hardly stay awake throught them!
He may have mis-fired occasionally but - I don't believe he ever played to the lowest common denominator.Except maybe in Cheaper by the Dozen or Pink Panther- both of which worried me. But he redemned himself in my eyes with Shopgirl.
