Because of recent events in both Afganistan and Iraq, I decided to watch this one again. Part military thriller, part police procedural, and part dramatic trial movie, ROE is very successful although not quite as intense as "A Few good Men". Here highly decorated Marine colonel Samuel L. Jaxkson makes an under fire decision and is court martialed as a result of the ensuing tragedy. He asks his long time buddy Tommy Lee Jones to defend him and Jones cannot refuse because he owes his life to Jackson. There are a couple of characters here that set your teeth on edge with their sheer evil but these are dealt with in true Hollywood fshion with end title credits showing their punishment (the film is weakened by this, IMHO). Both Jones and Jackson do a good job here, although I found their fight a little too much for two men of their age. This one is worth more than one veiwing.
Follow Ups:
are many and an inherent part of their "personae:" ridiculous coincidences; many overly dramatic scenes allowing for major emotional expression; neat little morals wrapped up neatly in 2 hours; trite dialogue.
What a breath of relief to view Asian films that have none of these shortcomings.
See "Cure."
Not a clicheŽin two hours.
'slowly'?
What's taking you time?
