I should say one example I like foreign films is because of being able to see the different lifestyles but also I think they are usually more intelligently written and often have character nuances that are presented in a natural manner and not explained to you by the director or script as often is done in american films. I think Bright Future had ideas that were neat and fun but I did not care about the characters or their reasons and convictions for doing what they did.

director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, needn't always have a direct cause. He has expressed the view that we think an extremely violent act means a murderer quietly has been among us where the more accurate view is that we all have this potential and occasionally, when circumstances are "right," anyone of us can so erupt.
A chilling thought: we're not surrounded by normal folks but rather groups of potential murderers.
