The city of New orleans is a character in this character driven story of a prosecutor (Ellen Barkin in what many consider her best role) investigating police corruption. She falls in love with Dennis Quaid, who is into small time graft and "favors" but draws the line at bigger corruption. A host of supporting characters lend fullness to the story and the love/sex scenes are, well, HOT. Last night was the first time I've sseen this in 20 years. I liked the Zydecko music and felt it added just the right spice to this brooding gumbo of a film.
Follow Ups:
I like Ellen, and I think her best role is actually the one in the Switch, where she plays exceptionally well a man in a woman's body.
