I puled this out last night in order to escape the Red Sox getting creamed by the hated Yankees 13-5. This is arguably the best Bond film, what with the plot, the viilians, the girls, the car and the direction. Can you imagine a golf game in the middle of a comtemporary Bond film? There is a symmetry here in the way that the electrocution, high dive, and Bond/M/banker sequences are echoed later on in the Bond/Goldfinger'Pussy Galore drinks, the man falling in Fort Knox during the fighting, and Oddjob'e electrocution. The movie actually improves upon the book with the idea of the dirty bomb. In the book Fleming was going to have them TRUCK the gold away! This one is always fun every time.
Follow Ups:
Goldfinger is too indulgent and campy in comparison, imo. Dr. No was a sleeper and surprise hit, FRWL the pinnacle of the Connery Bond films, with Goldfinger a step down, and Thunderball a huge disapointment.
I beg to differ. FRWL feels like a hodgepodge clobbered together in the editing room. It has none of the wit and style and symmetry (comparatively speaking, of course) of "Goldfinger".
Goldfinger should be looked at as the apex of the classical Bond.
Its trully a beautiful work- supremely entertaining, controlled, structured, tastefull, balanced and never straining.Dr. No, of course would be Goldfinger's ancient classical Greek forbearer, with the Caribean standing in for the bright blue cradle that was the Mediteranian.
You Only Live Twice, is a glorious piece of both Gothic and Baroque excentricity. And although Goldfinger is from a certain perspective the pinacle of Bond movies, You Only Live Twice stands as modern civilization's crowning achievement to date- comparable in my view to the cathedrals of Europe, or The Pieta.
How about Octopussy? Not just a cute name for an octopus?
Gerd Fröbe was an excellent actor.
Particulary in this one. Nicholson made a remake few years ago. A relatively weak one.
What does the film you linked to have to do with "Goldfinger"?
The actor.
One of my top 25!Can you imagine a charactor named Pussy Galore today?
The NOW people would crucify you.
My favorite line: "No Mr Bond, I want you to die!"
Music is Emotion
I think it's, I EXPECT you to die." (my emphasis). It's my favorite line as well.
Austin Powers: Alotta Fagina. Not much different than Pussy Galore. :)
But you are correct, they wouldn't likely use any similar name in an actual Bond film.
