...you are longing for some trully world class Spanish cinema, look no further than Luis Bunuel - a titan by any standard, on par with the likes of Fellini and Bergman when at his best. Between him and Almodovar you will get more fun than the human being should be allowed to (to borrow one of Rush's phrases).

Oh, so wrong! Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is a classic. Bergman? Most of his stuff went out with big tailfinned cars...
We shall probably disagree on this one. I am not sure what you mean by "classic", but this by itself is not a guarantee of anything. Deep Throat is arguably a classic, and so is the Animalhouse. The "Women" is a nice (yeah, *nice*...) movie defintely worth watching and perhaps even more, but it doesn't belong next to say, Bicycle Thief.***Bergman? Most of his stuff went out with big tailfinned cars...
Without knowing your point of reference, I don't know if you are just teasing or being serious. I hope you ARE teasing. It is impossible to argue the degree of greatness, and I shall respect your right not to like him, but in my book he is one of perhaps five most significant directors to walk this Earth.
But returning to Almodovar's movies for a second - as I stated before, watching them can be rewarding, all his weaknesses notwithstanding. A must for every movie lover.
