"real" violence. I saw both and "Ichi the Killer" is meant to be "real" while "Sin City" is meant to mimic a comic book.Completely different. Plus I think Sin City had a lot more style.
Follow Ups:
Batman-Superman type of fantasy, shouldn't be lessened by making it "cartoonish." By fantasizing it, one is attempting to romanticize it, make it purely entertainment.
And you're absolutely right about "style." Like a Big Mac, Sin City has a definitle, unmistakable "flavor."
Miike is a chameleon. He has stated he doesn't try and impart any "signature," whether through philosophy, cinematic trickery/cuteness, or subject choice.
Hey, you think Sin City is great... more power to ya. Don't miss Payback with Mel Gibson. It just may be your film equivalent of "Sistine Chapel."
:--)
..and get back to me on your take on that one.
I liked Ichi somewhat. It was a little over the top for me. I regularly watch Japanese movies and find them curious and odd but almost always entertaining.Try the Suicide Club sometime. That'll get your violence/horror juices flowing.

Make sure you get this one not the other non Japanese one:

not to mention the gorgeous women. Jessica Alba never looked better, and Carla Gugino...
she appears so naked and so casual about it. Thanks for reminding me of that mental picture.
