Batman-Superman type of fantasy, shouldn't be lessened by making it "cartoonish." By fantasizing it, one is attempting to romanticize it, make it purely entertainment.
And you're absolutely right about "style." Like a Big Mac, Sin City has a definitle, unmistakable "flavor."
Miike is a chameleon. He has stated he doesn't try and impart any "signature," whether through philosophy, cinematic trickery/cuteness, or subject choice.
Hey, you think Sin City is great... more power to ya. Don't miss Payback with Mel Gibson. It just may be your film equivalent of "Sistine Chapel."

I liked Ichi somewhat. It was a little over the top for me. I regularly watch Japanese movies and find them curious and odd but almost always entertaining.Try the Suicide Club sometime. That'll get your violence/horror juices flowing.
