Okay, Binoche was okay to look at but looking frumpy. She's turning into a frau, I'm afraid. What we have is four storylines intermingled and barely connected. I guess the director has seen too many indie films for his own good. Anyway, Binoche is a Parisian actress partnered with a war photographer who drops in from Kosovo from time to time. She is sister to a younger brother who breaks his father's heart by not wanting the family farm and runs to Paris. There he insults a Balkan illegal (woman) and is challanged by a young, first generation Malinese man for doing so that leads to the deportation of both the woman and young man whose sister is deaf and plays drums in a deaf school band. It it goes on and on and on. Ad nauseum.
This film is not for many to enjoy. Rather tiresome. Although, Binoche does some good scenes as rehersals for her movie role.
I give you a bye on this one.

Ex nihilo, nihil fit . . .
That's not just my opinion, but that of other countless indie afficionados, including other filmmakers.
In fact - nothing from that director is great, all quite mediocre, but pretentious.
The Piano Teacher is especially brilliant. If it isn't already evident to everyone here, VK is a transparent poseur and a narrow-minded reactionary who doesn't know 1/1000 about film as he likes to think.
