Better than average plot for the genre. It actually did an excellent job of taking current trends in cinematography and editing and melding it with a tight story. Funny thing is I thought the production value and effects to be pretty weak. I didn't share your problems with the movie. Every genre movie gets the privilidge of setting up their own myth. So I have no problem wih vampires being seen in mirrors or good guys having to drink blood to perform certain magical tasks.
