hey Jules, where's Vincent?I thought the movie is ok; not great, but I wouldn't say it suck. I think the storyline and acting flow naturally; there's no trying, no attempting to achieve anything more than it really is: a drama.
One comment about why they fall in love. I think movies these days really fail to _show_ why something really is. You see people keep saying "you complete me", etc.... which is not only corny in itself, but also puzzles the viewers as to why someone is in love with someone else.
I saw the extra cuts which have should been included. They should have let Kevin Cosner direct it, as contrary to common sense as it may sound. People who sit down and watch this movie should expect it to be long, and Cosner would have done a fully developed story and probably done it well.
Follow Ups:
I do see what you mean about it flowing naturally, it seems quite realistic in that sense, nothing seems forced like you say, but at the same time it seems so surreal... dunno how to explain it, kinda' like the feeling I got watching (and reading, but that was a long time ago) the great gatsby, like the character's are just robots in some fantasy world plodding along running programs and not actually thinking/feeling. I did really like robert redford, his character was great and breathed some life into things. I much prefer the type of drama in cider house rules where the character's grow and change so much... good balance there, hard to have believable character development.
