Films/DVD Asylum

This is another story of small town Australia but several cuts above the average.
The film was taken from a Paul Kelly song, itself a version of a Raymond Carver short story (So Much Water So Close To Home). Book and song are highly recommended.
As is this film.
A group of men go fishing in a very very remote spot and find the body of a girl who has obviously been murdered.
As things unfold the layers and complications pile up. There is a tendency in the film to overwork the metaphor of deeper water, but hey what's a metaphor(for)??!!
I found myself drawn right inside this film and found it totally believable as people's core beliefs come to the surface (there I go again).
The only odd moment for me was an indigenous funeral although my friend said it was realistic and she has attended indigenous funerals and thought it pretty realistic.
A lot of films in the last few years have explored the empty nature of the Australia landscape and psyche and this really hits hard at times.
I think its about the best of any that I have seen... and I tend to see most.
See it if you can, but don't go if you have a pending divorce...
