This is one of two films based on different parts of the celebrated novel by James Mitchner. It stars Julir Andrews and Max von Sydow, who play 18th century missionaries who travel to the islands to convert the pagan natives. naturally they run into many cultural clashes. often exacerbated bu von Sydow's relentless fundementalism
and implacability. Gene Hackmen has a small role. The fim was directed by Geroge Roy Hill, who was brought in at the last minute after creative differnces caused the departure of original director Fred Zinneman. Dalton Trumbo did the screenplay and Elmer Bernstein the musical score. Enjoyable if a bit too long.
