Director Nicholas Meyer also has on his resume what are arguably the 2 best Star Trek films, Wrath of Khan and Undiscovered Country. Warner is terrific as Jack the Ripper-love the scene where he shows McDowell violent television programming and declares "I belong here, utterly and completely".

I remember having a bit of a crush on Mary Steenburgen after seeing this one.
