Well, considering that most movies don't make good use of it and I get pretty good surround-like effects from watching DVDs in 2-ch from my maggies, there is one that does come to mind. Das Boot! The ambience effects are just great... you almost feel like you are in a tin-can at the bottom of the ocean.... and then when a depth charge pops some rivets loose and they go zipping around... wow, I instinctively ducked! I dunno... 5th Element has some good surround effects in it, but I mostly watch that one in simple stereo mode too.... for Das Boot, I always turn on the surround.
My favorite referance disk is beleive it or not Prince of egypt
the sound is exelent.
Thanx... never saw Prince of Egypt (tend to not care much for Disneyesque things and like darker stuff, like the animated version of Spawn... live action version seemed more flippant and more like an FX exhibition, and also left out a lot of stuff that would have given it something like an NC-17 rating), but I'll give it a look.
Here's my personal picks,1)Saving Private Ryan - DTS
2)Airforce One - DD
3)Santana Supernatural - DTS
4)U-571 - DTS
5)Gladiator - DTS
A lot of people like Fifth Element as a reference disc for audio and picture.cheers

Saving Private Ryan (dts)
Lethal Weapon 4 (beginning at least)
Top Gun
The Perfect Storm
Enemy of the StateI don't consider these the best, but I think they sound damn good!
