In many ways this is a precursor of "2001: A Space Odyssey": threatening governments, a controversial voyage, a trip to the moon, a spece walk, colored space suits, and an emergency requiring improvisation. The animated sequence is a precursor of that used in "Jurrassic Park" and "Titanic". The 1950 film was produced by sci fi specialist George Pal. Enjoyable and a better film that "Rocketship XM", released that same year.
Follow Ups:
You should check out "The DEFA Sci Fi Collection". I think you might like it. Three CD set of some vintage scifi out of Europe, one from the early 60s and two others from the 70s. Cheesy in a good way.
I have it on DVD.saw it in the movies when I was a kid.
I have seen that one, although it was a long time ago.
