and she'll love you to death for it.
It is perhaps less than average film but works as entertainment. Predictable, formulaic. Streep over the top but efffective. This is the kind of thing that Hollywood used to do pretty well but... those tasteful old directors are long gone.
But... there's Anne Hathaway.
What a beautiful woman. An Anglo answer to Penelope Cruz. Yeah, your wife may be in heaven watching the clothes but any man should be quite contented watching the sixty-foot apparition of Anne for a couple of hours.
Follow Ups:
and aside from being a chick flick, I still give it something between a C+ and B- Streep was good, but she is better in Prairie Home Companion. I suspect the tale pretty acurately depicts the backbighting that goes on within the high-end fashion industry and that in the real world a lot of the participants there are over the top too.

Who's aggitat'in my dots?
a
I have a very active fantasy sex life.
Why choose, they're both great tastes but hardly a regular source of nitrition.
To put it another way, if you are in a position to choose, then why are you wasting yout time with us????????????????????????????????????
I've had both of them . . . that's why I'm back.
The upside is that you get to see a LOT more of her. The downside is watching "Havoc"
"Except for the point, the still point, There would be no dance, and there is only the dance. " T.S. Eliot
Poor vehicle for trying to break the "good girl" image. I haven't seen Brokeback and was wondering about her exposure there . . .
..she gives an excellent performance in BBM - her best so far. The movie is worth seeing on its own merits.

...I just blew that $30 on some leather work gloves, so I guess I (and my lady) will have to wait for it on a cable. But someone gave her the book recently, and apparently it ain't Dostoyevsky... in fact she says it is outright poorly written.
If only I didn't spend that $30... I would have bought a new chainsaw blade!
What are those Vic, upscale work gloves?Christ, I always did fine with Flexos, Munks and hot-mill gloves from Blue Collar supply in Chicago. $4 a pair tops. And that was for boilermaking, a rigorous trade.
Not too fancy, just good cow hide gloves for general around the yard work.Although I always salivate over some of those high end work gloves...
...
Vic--Ahhh, I see.But no shit, there are "styled" work gloves now, same with work shoes, in fact it's getting hard to find work shoes anymore that look like plain old boondockers.
;^)
happiness she will feel and the reciprocal benefits... Half of the fun for a woman is telling their girlfriends that her man went to such a spectacle with her, the implication being his love is, well, you know, so great. Guys who refuse outright to go shopping once and awhile with their woman also don't "get it," in more ways than one.
But, what's thirty bucks? You don't buy all the garbage they have at the theaters, do you?
Take her for a nice salad lunch before the feature and you'll be her knight.
My wife really appreciated the fact I didn't make her go with her female friends since she has attended a lot of "guy" films with me w/out very much reciprocity.
It looks like I will REALLY need some "softener" soon... she put all episodes of Seinfeld in the queue - she never watched them and wanted to know what all the fuss was about... but in a sneaky dastardly way I stuck the Teorema right after the first five DVD's! And she hates Pasolini with passion! So I am expecting a major shit storm when it arrives! Fortunately she's been growing cooler to Seinfeld... there are good moments here and there, but all in all not the level she was expecting.
But with the wedding just two weeks away no room for theater trips...
are very strong and clearly stated. For those (like myself) that assumed Italian women still at that time were docile, it was a real eye opener.
The wedding preparation? Sounds like you should watch one of those Steve Martin Dad movies... Thank God, I've got a few years to save up.
You assumed (at ANY time?) that Italian women are docile?
Sheesh....
did live in a very male-dominated culture where young girls could not go out alone w/out female relatives in attendance. Teen dating? No way!
Also, it was considered (still is, I guess) okay for guys to mess around but if the wife did... it was legal to shoot her (nope, not the guy).
Italian women lagged behind other Western countries in college attendance, jobs, etc. I'd bet they still do.
But "docile?" No. You're right. My Italian grandmother would crawl from her grave to slap me if she had read that. Oops.
This way if I go on the floor and make a fool out of myself, it has at least some chance of being somewhat original...My wife does not see the "women's opinions" as something not already present in the normal human ones, she is too much of a woman to be a feminist, so all and by itself that alone would not be an attraction for her, but from my memory the Theorema is sufficiently removed from his works she used to find objectionable, and the taste of mediocrity that Seinfeld sets in your mouth might get too much by the time it shows up... so I suspect I will get off with a suspended sentence...
