Remarkably wordy and preachy.Who makes horror movies that are this boring?
Were a couple good moments in it -- Willem saying "I think we don't need the writer anymore" amoung them.
JM of course was in good form, although he had to wade through a lot of pretentious dialogue.
The movie couldn't decide if it was a mirror, a comedy, a horror show or exactly what.
As an armchair director, I would have focused less on Murnau and more on the vampire. Willem was the best part of the movie, although the mugging for the camera was uncalled for.
Would I go see it again? No. Would I see it for the first time, assuming there was nothing else to do? I did.
Follow Ups:
... from the advance publicity I didn't think it was supposed to be a horror film at all. It looks more like a conceit aimed at lovers of classic silent films.TG
I love horror movies but all you get these days is teenage slice and dice. Was hoping this movies would be a little more creative, given the premise on which the story was based and the actors involved. Damn!
You might want to take a look at Begotten, it is one of the director's earlier movies. Quite horrific in a very creative way. The soundtrack is also nothing but the sound of crickets...http://us.imdb.com/Title?0101420
