Siegel's version ends the film with McCarthy running in traffic screaming hysterical warnings. The Kaufman version was definitely superior in the fright department.

Yes, when I run the 1956 version I eliminate the scene in the clinic and jump right to the train arriving bearing the doctor. At the end I end it with the McCarthy on the road sequence. That's why the McCarthy cameo in the Kaufman film is so effective, it's like he ran all the way to San Francisco.
