I just replaced my laserdisc with the DVD and watched it last night. What a masterpiece of writing and direction (Polanski did both). Rosemary is SO alone toward the end, her frail body toting a big suitcase trying to ezcape from her husband and his witch scronies. Polanski is at his best here and turns up the terror notch by notch as the film progresses. And what a fine cast. Highly recommended.
Follow Ups:
Every actor in this movie is pitch perfect. The New York setting, the clothes, evoke a very particular place and time. The dialogue is memorable and quotable. And the story itself is kept very subtle and ambiguous until the very end. There is a real sense of something horrible, this is what horror is supposed to be about, not people being cut up.
I think Rosemary's Baby is a very fine piece of film making and right up there with the Omen and the Exorcist that followed later..I still get spooky watching these movies..lol..:)AP
# The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men # Samuel L. Jackson (Ezekiel 25:17)> Pulp Fiction < Current Set-Up..Plinius CD101-> M8-> SA-REF-> Genesis IM-8300 <-
Always found it dated and irritating.
Quite controversial back in 1968. Still rather bold with it's Catholic / Kennedy references.Btw: this is exactly what I wawriting about with Rico. Everytime he brings up a film he likes it's almost always on my top 100 list.
