Not laid out in the order of quality or preference. There all fine films. Hunter is a pretty good biopic on John Huston and the African Queen. Then there's the 1970's Truffault film with J.P. Leaud and Bisset. Then the Gene Kelly classic. If somebody mentioned these already, sorry.
The name of the film is "White Hunter, Black Heart".

Two of the best from that era are Movie Crazy (Harold Lloyd) and Show People (Marion Davies). One of the great lost films of the era is Hollywood, from 1923 (see link below)...

I am not even pretending to cover the territory, but if I had pick just one movie, that would be the 8 1/2, and if I wanted to make it 1 1/2, then I would add "Tempo di viaggio" about Andrey Tarkovsky getting ready for his Nostalgia.
Godard's Le Mepris (aka Contempt), with Jack Palance in a stellar performance as an American producer, and Fritz Lang as the director.
