  I remember that one vaguely, but the lead is a very good actor, and the girl is pretty.

      And given the cultural differences, only those films dealing with common human emotions translate well - taken from that perspective Viy was doomed from the start, I wonder why they even bothered releasing it here. Unless you have good feel for the Russian culture and Gogol's work it is bound to irritate you.
      I will probably add it to my Netflix queue.
