In this "It Happeneed One Night" meets "Cast Away" meets "Flight of the Phoenix" south seas charter pilot Harrison Ford and New York Fashion writer Anne Heche are marooned on a South Pacific island fwhen their plane runs into trouble during a typhoon. heche is in the area on a pre-honeymoon trip with fiance David Schwimmer (poorly cast, IMHO) and had hired Ford to travel to a quick business meeting in Tahiti. Naturally Ford and Heche hate each other but over time, well, you know. They find food and water (too easily but, hey, this is a Hollywood romantic comedy) and battle with pirates. Then Ford has an idea for their escape...This is EXACTLY what you expect but it is well done and I enjoyed it both times I saw it.
Follow Ups:
Several people I know have told me that Six Days and Seven Nights was very good....They too don't watch international films much...but then again they like I are not recent graduates of The Film School Of Snobbery like some.... ;-)
I love "Cast Away" and watch it many times. The cinematography and DTS sound are spectacular and the point of view during the plane crash is unique. Hanks is very convincing throughout. Though stolen from "The Bridges of Madison County" the scene in the rain where Helen Hunt is torn between her husband and family and the returned Hanks is very moving. The end is very optimistic, no matter which way you think he turned (that woman is quite simply GORGEOUS so I know which way I'd turn).
don't you get a Netflix membership (I have no financial interest in it whatsoever, merely an extremely satisfied customer) and at least give international films some more time?
Hamburgers, once in a while, are okay but to make that your primary meal day after day is harmful.
I was tempted not to reply to this but... In my collection of 1600+ films on laserdisc and DVD I have many international films and do watch them and revisit them periodically. I prefer to own films and as a successful retiree can do so. I post what I want, just as you do. Others post on every conceivable type of film so why pick on me?
waste time seeing inferior stuff?
Because (1) I dont consider it wasting time (you do)and (2)I don't consider it inferior (you do).
