I am aware of all the acolades this film garnered but it just didn't click with me because I just didn't car about the characters. What it is is a thirties/forties style Noir detective story using contemprary suburban California teenagers but done seriously without tongue in cheek. I found it overlong and containing some plot loopholes (not unusual even in wome Noir classics). I'd be curious to see what others thought of this and maybe I should give it another whirl
Follow Ups:
characters, I agree, were so poorly drawn that I didn't care what happened to them.
For a great American movie exposing what life is for young folks today, see "Bubble."
It's a VERY underrated gem.
Did I say it was AMERICAN?
...teenager living with you...or remember how things were when you were in high school.I saw it a the theater with my 16 year old daughter - we enjoyed it and thought it was brilliant.
When it came out on video, we watched it again with my wife. It made a lot more sense the second time.
"Where will I find you?"
I think the accolades are much overblown.
