"Portrait of a Jazz Survivor" was so well done, I had insights into the complex Pepper character that I didn't get reading his dark but wonderful autobiography "The Straight Life".
is playing at DOC in a few weeks. I'm going to try to get there.
This has never come out on laserdisc or DVD and the VHS tape is out of print and obscenely overpriced as well. Too bad, as it is a great documantery on Chettie. I saw it once at the Brattle theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
