Hard to make generalizations, and I would not venture to compare it to the output of such great producers as the US or France, but there is definitely life there. For a while it seemed like the film industry and interest in films in general was dying in Russia, but today there are many multi-screen theaters apparently doing well. The Russians always loved movies, and after a brief lull they are getting back into that routine. One has, however, to distinguish two trends. One is the "inside" movies, those that speak to the Russian soul and are deeply rooted in the Russian life, and would be hard to understand by a foreigner (there are many such works), and those of the more universal nature, and these tend to make it to the West.
VODKA LEMON? Armenian movie by Hiner Saleem.I found this to be very good.

The director's Kilometre Zero is already on my list.
I Neflixed the first disk but have held off on the second. It sure seemed to be pretty poorly made for Russian TV stuff. Now, if disk two gets in to the shitsky it might be more entertaining.Say what?
Not the worst mini-series around, but of course not a great cinema either, yes, you can say it is poorly made... I don't regret watching it, as it of course touched some personal notes. Hard to recommend it for general audience, though. Why are you asking... what's a buck-fifty these days? There are a couple of good actors there.
I mean, Cadets has ALL the stereotypes we have in our classic war movies showing people are more alike than not, da?
