For me the best of all the Bond I have seen, of course it do not beat the nostalgia of " From Russia.." or Goldfinger and the magical Fröbe, the best of all Bondian ´s " böse"- short bad guys.
First it has appeal in the way Fleming´s would have loved, humour some time too cheap, many layers, action the way a " modern film must have ". But well done digital effects, and that is, babs, a real treat!
Green look sexy ( no wonder, mother French, so no more cliche from now on )
Now Sean will always look better.
But the new one is second.
A close second.PS: The main opening song, is bad. Vera bad.
---And I am missing the sophistication of a Maurice Binder even if the optical title was ok.
PPS: I was aghost to see children of six years old in this movie. The German guild allow them in such a film.
Six years!
Follow Ups:
Correct me on details, memory is vague, but I recall years ago seeing
a 1956? stage production of 'Casino Royale' on TV,featuring Jackie Cooper as Bond and Peter Lorre as adversary. BTW, saw the first JB
film as a teen, 'Dr. No', followed by 'From Russia With Love', then
'Goldfinger', 'Thunderball', etc. great viewing for a youngster in the early 1960s. ~AH
Consulted imdb: That Casino Royale production was a 1954 TV episode
from Climax Mystery Theater(USA)1954-1957. Lorre played crime boss
Le Chiffre and Barry Nelson played Jimmy Bond. ~AH
I was not aware of this US TV production of 1954. And I love P. Lorre.
Casino Royale was written in 1953.
The only one I knew was the parody.
Boring.
Saw the 67 spoof. Casino Royale: Collectors Edition-1954 is available
on VHS from www.amazon.com for 20 bucks if you're interested. Go to
site and read 12 customer reviews, avg rating is 4 out of 5 stars. ~AH
For luck I have a VHS that do NTSC, I go into an order tomorrow.
That you for the idea!
~AH
I will. Amazon sent it already, so...
And I agree with your evaluation overall: It was a fine 144 minutes at the matinee. However: "Now Sean will always look better." Sean wore a toupee!
Well but he did not wo(h) re a false nose.
When photograph from the side the new Bond has something unpleasant.
At least in my eyes. As for Mrs Green she has a breast like a cow, but beside this a most beautiful woman.
But who is perfect?
I don't know quite what you meant, but that bovine pair looked OK by me.I also loved the movie. I have read all of the books....many several times. When Fleming died it was almost like a death in the family. The movie versions went downhil big time after the first few. Fleming would have been pissed.
I hope there are more to follow that begin to reflect the character Fleming created.
