I like Diva, the French movie, very much. I saw it in the theater when it was new. I'm not sure I've seen it since then.So I splurged on a fairly expensive ($22) DVD from Fox Lorber.
I should have checked the comments on amazon. This is awful. The picture is OK, not great, but OK. The sound, however, is constantly varying in pitch like a defective turntable. The French dialogue is almost completely blurred into indistinct mumbles.
I never sell DVDs. But I'm selling this back for the few dollars it will bring. It's unwatchable.
I know there is another version out on DVD. Again, I should've checked amazon before buying this.

there is a piano theme in this movie that reminds me of Satie with a bit of echo effects...it is an evocative theme and occurs several times, once with some beautiful shots of the city of Paris...a nice moment. Totally ruined because the sustain of the notes could be heard doing an annoying and unintended vibrato...a real shame, this movie deserves someone like Criterion who would take better care of it. I've seen much much better bootlegs in Asia.
and still want to see it again.
