As you point out, this was one of the first movies shot in the then new CinemaScope process (2:55 x 1 for this one, I believe) and you can sense that the film makers were seizing every opportunity to utilize the possibilities of the anamorphic lense. Good acting by all although the story has more of the feel of a legend than a true tale.

I was wondering about that "true tale" stuff. The cover indicates it is based upon a true story, but I cannot find a source which verifies this to be true. I was thinking maybe this was like Fargo's true story.
