The Ki-duk Kim's film starts on a very intriguing note, but quickly runs out of steam... which is shame, as the first thirty minutes certainly contain a lot of promise.
Follow Ups:
entertained by his original vision.
He seems to have a lot of talent but it's "raw." Anyhow, I enjoyed RF and recommend it. Don't expect a classic and you should be happy.
It's hard to believe the same guy make it and SWSS (or whatever the multi-season titled film is).
list soon.
As the subtle mystery of the first half an hour evaporated I became almost angry.
troubling images and ideas. I think you'd like it as it shows true cinematic skills.
and prefer the Isle and much prefer Spring Summmer Fall Winter and Spring by Ki-duk Kim.
I think that I felt the film was okay when I first saw it some time ago, but it did not stick with me after the passage of time. Duk's Spring, Summer, Fall..., on the other hand....
I watched Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...Spring recently.I was underwhelmed, to say the least.
The stories were presented literally, superficially. It tells you, instead of engaging you and letting you figure out for yourself.
I read somewhere the director is not a Buddhist (he's a Christian). If true, this could perhaps (but should not) explain why he's able to sketch the forms but not show profoundness of the Buddhist teachings. I'm not a Buddhist but even I can see an opportunity lost.
