I thought it was a very good movie, but not great. I thought the storyline was a bit too predictable, and a bit contrived at points. However, it was so beautifully shot and technically superior to almost anything else out there, it was easy to look past the few flaws.I read a few reviews afterwards and found them to be telling. Most of the reviewers who didn't like the movie seemed to have a problem with Gibson, not the movie in and of itself. Their logic being, "Gibson is a religious idiot, look at his lousy movie, it's got naked natives running around! He's a pervert! His movie sucks!" The reviews are just starting to trickle out, and most of the reviewers I respect haven't gone over it yet, but I'm not sure how you can deny that it's, at the very least, a technically excellent movie.

Though I found the technical excellence to be less exceptional than you did.
