Please re-read my post. I never wrote that the film you saw in the airplane was edited for content - only that many films are. I have read interviews from directors (Scorcese for one) who note that the editing of the film is the single most important facet of the film which dictates whether the film is as good as it can be. Which is why many top directors either edit the film themselves, or regularly work with the same editors over again because the editor would know the vision of the director. Consequently, if you do not understand that a film edited for content can very much affect the quality of the film, then you know less about film than I thought.But then, you probably knew that, being the film genius you are? Right!
