... even if it wasn't released this year, but the one you're going to think about about most about in the future, want most to see again, etc. Just one a post.
Follow Ups:
One of the finest German Expressionist films made during the silent era; this restoration includes a choice of two scores, one orchestral, the other harp, and presents the older export version on Disc 2 for comparison. It's worth noting that the alternate version was edited from different takes for foreign (non-German) audiences; it differs greatly from the domestic German release (see link below). The only downside is the 4% speed-up inherent with PAL releases, but the visual impact is negligeable. Until this richly deserving title is selected by Criterion for a Region 1 release (it is assumed that any NTSC version, if properly transferred, wouldn't have that 4% speed-up) we probably won't see a better representation of this silent masterpiece. Highly recommended! (**** 1/2 stars)
Mine is "Tokyo Monogatari" (1953) )AKA "Tokyo Story". Thanks to Victor's strong recommendation I bought the DVD and fell in love with this film instantly.
Pure magic...

Based on a recommendation I saw here.
It's in my DVD player at least once a month :~)

My favourite comic book adaptation.
Check out his latest: Pan's Labyrinth, which is wonderful.
Watched it AGAIN last night - we just got a projector and saw it big, with sound thru the 2 channel system. Nice.
I think the screenplay and script for Hellboy is excellent. Hell, Hellboy is a regular guy with a great sense of humour, just a couple of bad habits and a crush on a pretty girl, oh, and a tail and horns.
I had been meaning to see this for years. The University of Chicago screened this as part of their Jazz series this fall, so I got to see it on the big screen. Hard to believe this movie got made considering its comercial potential. I'm lucky enough to have both the soundtrack and the outtakes on vinyl.
I do believe that the film produced two soundtrack CD's.

very nicely done and moving

director certainly is.
But it's kind of a 1 and 1a situation.
I thought Tony was more unusual and quietly striking, but that might be just the result of cultural gaps - being much closer to one, hence making the other one look more exotic in good sense.
