It's not so much "sped up" as it is an editing effect...VERY similar to what Spielberg did in Saving Private Ryan. It gives an "immediate" and gritty quality to fight scenes.Doug Schneider

I did see the lack of digital stablization in the camcorders which is something completely different. What I saw in the Gladiator VHS casette was almost claymation type motion that is indicative of DVD's strobing which necessitates 3:2 pull down.
