I got more this time.
It is a film that rewards the patient viewer.
Over time, I've come to appreciate the beautiful acting of the secondary characters, i.e. the old woman woman who loved small found objects, the man with the torn cheek, the adolescnet with the repetitive speech pattern, etc.
One scene shows the director's mastery: towards the end, there is a shot of the outdoor bench. If one pays attention, an almost translucent mist momentarily floats over it.
Spoiler:
Is the young man united forever with the young woman in his thoughts because he chose the later image of the empty bench?
What a brilliant ending.
Follow Ups:
Seen anything else by the director?
Too depressing for me.
I didn't mention: one absolutely stunningly beautiful lead actress and two charismatic males. The zany guy shows that one can be a young actor and still fascinating. Can't think of an American actor like him.
