A road movie.
Critical of the USA and a bit more of California. A see through attack on police.
Boring.
Good actors.
Will only appeal to " lefties " without much imagination and in need for directives.
Boring.
A grotesque who could have been much better done.
Follow Ups:
...a bit off center. Not as great as its critical reception IMO.
But any movie that exposes child beauty pageants as the horror shows they are can't be all bad.
Well...you mean on political ( social ) reason, kind of...
The horror picture show,,,
Not to mention shallow, petty and disrespectful. If you don't like a movie fine, but to attack people who do like it the way you did was really ugly. very sad.
Do not worry, critic and self-critic goes a pair...
these days in the USA, take some quirky characters and throw them into unusual situations, throw in some pop music and successful movie ensues...It was OK to me but a sad case for comedy of the year as it has been touted by many.
Absolutely. I would call that kind of film: a fake. Sometimes you fall in.

I have. But now it must be a hundred years ago. All I retained from it, is its shining humanism.
One I will have to review again, but you know sometimes, one only view is far enough for a life time.
I am going right now through " Juliette des Esprits "---Fellini.
Montenegro's performance in "Central Station" is the only equal that springs to mind.
;-)
disagree with the "messages."
It is hard, however, to like them.
Am I glad, to have none....;-)))
Yes, it’s true, you don’t have a “political view”, what means, you don’t have political criterias of evaluation or knowledge at all. Vou have by cut and tried opinions (“lefties need directives” “conservative is bad per definitionem”), instead. But tell me: why are you proud of it?
"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent". (Ludwig Wittgenstein)
Tell me why I should not?People are more important than ideas, most of the time.
Now if you do not like me, why just being like a dog after an heel to bite?
Go your way I go mine.
I don't bite, I only want to play.
Like a young pug.And I can't find anybody who could be more suitable than you.
Well that sound more cute...The problem is that use to choose my pugs.
If you have not much flees as it seems, I may adopt you...
As long as dog and its inhabitents behave well...It may be a lovely journey in the prison of boredom...
Nice film on ARTE, Schmidt & Wehner & Brandt and Egon Bahr, or the story behind.
"It may be a lovely journey in the prison of boredom..."In the prison or into the prison?
(I know, you are not so much interested in details.....)And who are shmidtwehenrbrandtbahr? Actors in a road movie? Or "lefties without imagination and in need for directives"?
Take your pick.Lefties with imagination.

Silent? Me..Nor silent nor conservative, just ...me.

A "good" movie. It's all about being "a loser"( that phrase was mentioned about 30 times in the film ) and how to "live" despite "not winning".
" Lefties " is not " bad " per definition ( as the word conservative..) I use it only to define.
No doubt it was in this biased spirit that this film was made.
As for the philosophy, if we did not knew it...
No too much cliches, much more I can take!
be an outsider.
Hell, she's the damn norm in this country of whales.
Otherwise, it was only her father who wasn't accepting her the way she was... everyone else thought she was fine. But really the whole family were portrayed as outsiders/losers... and she's the one that showed them they weren't... that was kind of the point.
n
... everyone apart from her was an outsider...
And was she really that fat? It was predictable to give her glasses, but the film covered the plastic nature of certain aspects of American culture in a way that has been trodden many times, but what this film had was not that it was unexpected... in fact it was overall quite predictable... but that it was FUNNY.
And despite their outsider nature, every character showed their humanity by the end.

Not to mention that in dysfunctional families, parents always want the kids on their side and food is a competitive sport.
I know what you mean. In my old Brooklyn neighborhood even the storefront *mannequin's* were "large" ... and I'm not kidding.
