many books have been penned claiming by their get-rich-quick-wishing authors that they've solved it... not.
The case is still open, according to the SFPD. Yes, there have been four or five very good suspects but none conclusively have been proven guilty.
Years ago, I was driving around the area north of SF when I found a strange looking, very long lake with eerie blue water. I pulled into a parking lot to walk around a park on the water but, after walking for five minutes or so, I felt creeped out.
Much later, in reading a book about the Zodiac, I found out that the killer had ambushed a couple at that very lake, killing one and seriously wounding the other.
This serial killer is unusual in that he didn't target females alone, and when he did, he didn't sexually molest them. He also used several different methods of killing.
He is one of the few that taunted police over a long period of time and escaped.
As we all know, BTK, who also had a fondness for belaboring police, was discovered after the idiot sent them an email, resulting in the police tracing it to the computer of the church at which he was deacon.
Zodiac was no such dullard.
One chilling fact: a young woman was grabbed outside of a library overlooking a bluff and pulled to a lonely spot behind the building and killed.
Much later, during an equipment inventory, a library worker discovered someone had carved into a desk a note stating that the writer was watching a woman as he carved and that when she left the building, he was going to follow and kill her.
Now that's creepy...
A major studio is scheduled to release a new Zodiac film anyday now.
Follow Ups:
as the puzzle of killers' identity being solved. Look at the contents of his house when it was inventoried after he died. GAME OVER. And the police have no ACTIVE supects, once Allen died the mater was dropped. And of course no kilings.
the case is not closed nor was it "dropped" upon Allen's death. He may have been the killer and somehow managed to get someone else's DNA on the evidence.
.
.
of men who could have been the killer. The police themselves closely looked at them and several died without any resolution.
There was NO forensic evidence ever linked to any suspect. Period.
The infamous blood-soaked shirt that Zodiac took from the dead body of the taxi driver never has been recovered.
Believe me, if you're correct, the headlines in CA would have been blinding. The SFPD has wanted to solve this forever.
The killings ceased long ago, as Zodiac said they would. He said he was going to continue killing but in such a way as the deaths would appear accidents. You didn't know that, either?
Seriously, don't depend on movies for your wisdom. Try a bit of independent research.
from Zodiackiller.com:
"ladies and gentlemen, the defendant would have you believe these facts are all explicable by different excuses: The bombs were left by a friend. The watch was a random gift from his mom. He was going to Berryessa on the day of the Shepard/Hartnell attack but changed his mind. That his mechanical skills and the disabling of cars of victims was a coincidence. That his unusual use of language (Trigger mech, xmass, etc) in an identical manner to Zodiac is also a coincidence. That his forged exonerating letter allegedly from the Justice Department is authentic. That all witnesses who claim to have had Allen confess to them are lying, but he's telling the truth. That his own family never saw the evidence they told police they saw. The access to identical cars, connection to Darlene Ferrin, ownership of a bloody knife used "to kill some chickens", ownership of matching weapons, shoes, his build, and on and on were all nothing more than coincidence. That a witness picked him out of a photo lineup in error. All these incongruous and unlikely explanations on one side, and on the other, the single reasonable explanation to all these facts: Arthur Leigh Allen is the Zodiac!" etc...

friends and acquaintances, many more that had been "turned in" by same.
As I'm sure you know, there are many coincidences that turn up in any investigation. Remember all those "facts" put forward by Johnny Cochran? The two suspicious men?
Zodiac is unsolved. Period.
You listen to one guy and swallow the whole fishing boat, to boot.
Bomb making materials the Zodiac described in his letters were in Allen's basement; that is not a theory. And confessions to friends. Not theories; theories are what you have to try and explain away those facts.
goodnight
Police close cases when they believe the suspect is dead. They do not announce he was the killer, in case they were wrong, no to prejudice the case against the new suspect.
There is no statute of limitations on murder, so they do not close murder cases when they believe they are unsolved. And the fact some people confessed is not the same as the entire list of coincide of Allen including living within one mile or so of all the murderees, and the murders stopping while he was incarcerated.
of crime would educate you to the fact that many, many "facts" are shared by many people that are suspected.
Yes, a filmmaker is much cleverer than all the detectives that worked around the clock to solve this case. Not.
You need to read my link and read a few books on the Zodiac. There are many suspects that fit the profile. Many. The police never could narrow it down.
You know how many books have been written purporting to "solve" Jack the Ripper's murders? More than you have fingers and toes. You'd read one and post it as the absolute!
