I love that oracle scene.Too bad "Taming" is dated. It's a shame that nothing intermediary was promoted. The concept of an utterly submissive wife sounds as offensive to me as those men who were p#ssy whipped.
BTW, is there a Reader's digest version of
? It's either that or I pretend it's a mini-series comprising of 3/4 viweings. Also, how's the translation? Is the subtitled more or less accurate that the dubed, or is it the same? We know you want the original tongue but for those of us who don't understand Russian, which would you recommend? I know if I were to buy a copy, I'd snag the uncut version since the editted one is still too long for a single viewing (my butt would get sore).

Is the subtitled more or less accurate that the dubed, or is it the same?I haven't seen either, but from my previous experiences American dubbing simply sucks, so I would go for the subs. I would much rather hear the original actor's voices, than some Hollywood unemployed wannabe's. Hearing the Japanese voices with their unique inflections is part of the movie, and after few decades you learn to follow the subs.
The only good dubbing that I recall was the Soviet era one, when they spent millions on it, it was exceptionally good sometimes, never bad.

And I always recommend the Bondarchuk's "Waterloo" as a great companion movie to War and Peace. I simply love that one.
