***BTW, is there a Reader's digest version of ? It's either that or I pretend it's a mini-series comprising of 3/4 viweings.I think you should simply allocate four evenings and take your time - it is slow, but good at places. I think it is worth it overall. Where can you get it?
***Also, how's the translation? Is the subtitled more or less accurate that the dubed, or is it the same?I haven't seen either, but from my previous experiences American dubbing simply sucks, so I would go for the subs. I would much rather hear the original actor's voices, than some Hollywood unemployed wannabe's. Hearing the Japanese voices with their unique inflections is part of the movie, and after few decades you learn to follow the subs.
The only good dubbing that I recall was the Soviet era one, when they spent millions on it, it was exceptionally good sometimes, never bad.
***We know you want the original tongue but for those of us who don't understand Russian, which would you recommend? I know if I were to buy a copy, I'd snag the uncut version since the editted one is still too long for a single viewing (my butt would get sore).I would definitely go for the uncut one. Get some soft cushion...
And I always recommend the Bondarchuk's "Waterloo" as a great companion movie to War and Peace. I simply love that one.

Remind me to include one dead sample for your paperweight pleasures...
... to thwart my carnal audio nirvana desires. Wasn't he French rather than Russian?OTOH that could be worse. A new BAT promotion, we'll let your hear the left chanel but the right one's gonna cost you. If it were fraught with pitfalls, it would be positively diabolical.
PS: I've upgraded by X10D in my midfi system to a Sovtek 6922 & tried my brother's Mullard. How does yours compare?
