The first is a charming piece about gourmet dining. The second is a humorous tale of a Japanese man who sets up a phony audition to find a new wife. Trust me, women love this kind of stuff!
Follow Ups:
they 'spread pate' on the naked fellow. BTW is Helen Mirren in The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover?
she's also great in the BBC series Prime Suspect and Michael Gambons magnum opus is in the Dennis Potter series The Singing Detective
Either film would work as a date movie for meBut I'm probably one in about...oh, say...
...twenty thousand.
How many people do you know who love Peter Greenaway??? I wanna meet some.
... apart from her being GREAT... is that after she passed oooo 25... she didn't take to roles that were essentially sexless. She has grown... mmm... older playing roles that have seemed to reflect women of that age instead of the usual dregs.
I do largely love him. I think some of my sick friends do too... I will check. They are sick enough to love Sokurov, so what the heck?
I remember Ebert raving about this movie many years ago and I watched it then and also a few months back. It is a terrificly over the top Greenaway effort with witty dialogue and vogue images.I just wondered what you thought of it - if you did see it...
I haven't. Missed it then and never caught up, but meant to. Perhaps will see it now, will add it to the queue.
A Zed & Two Noughts
Drowning By Numbers
In The Belly of an Architect
Prospero's Books
The Pillow BookBut Draughtsman's Contract is my personal favorite. Took foresver for this to come out on DVD.
The shorts can be fun too, although they're more or less concept pieces, not entertainment per se.
I haven't seen Greenaway's most recent films. I have The Baby of Macon in a terrible quality VHS version.
