I often lament the sparsity of children's films, and as I have written here before, the one area I think Hollywood is leaps and bounds ahead of world cinema. Not only to entertain the children, but to entertain the parent being entertained by the child who is entertained by the film. There is really not much to say about the film. Mi 3 1/2 year old watches the cartoon on PBS every day, and so he knows George. Why talk about the film itself when the real joy is sitting together under a blanket watching a film which does not insult an adult's intelligence?
As an added bonus, there is a good sounding soundtrack that had my Gallo 3.1 digging around 30hz with some sound effects. Hopefully such exposure will generate an interest in high end audio.
I read Ebert's review and I think he sums it up pretty well: "Is this movie for the whole family to attend? No, it is a movie for small children and their parents or adult guardians, who will take them because they love them very much." It is on again tomorrow night. I think we'll watch it again.
